Introduction

The Art of Fresco Painting

Many dimensions exist indeed when traveling. In Tuscany, it seems easier to travel into time, art and within one's soul. Today, for this new kind of traveler, there is a truly unique route. It starts in Florence and reaches places far beyond the usual postcard landscapes.

In an ancient country house, which stands beside a tower of the 1300's, an "artistic space" has been especially conceived to make - physically, concretely, personally - art. In this culturally saturate atmosphere and environment, modern disciples have an opportunity to learn the ancient and unchanged art of fresco painting - six days to dedicate entirely to yourself via mind, soul and hands. It is an occasion to express your personal creative energy with an instrument used by the greatest artists of the Italian Renaissance and which finds its origins in the most ancient civilizations - fresco painting (view a fresco gallery).

"Maestro" Antonio, whose passion for fresco painting has become vocation with constant study, will be your guide in the exploration of this technique which involves all the senses. Small groups (maximum six students) will enjoy this sensual experience in drawing or painting. A rich program of activities and entertainment is offered in Florence, just a few kilometers from the "bottega".

Each work achieved in the workshop expresses a very personal sensorial code, both visual and tactile, of its author. Each author will have the great satisfaction of returning home with his work and keeping it forever - thanks to the traditional technique well known by restorers, "dello strappo". The beautiful gift you granted yourself remains a treasured memory or intense emotions...the fresco painting and the days of its creation will have left indelible traces in your mind and soul. An exclusive cultural experience.

The basic program of study includes:

Introduction to history / theory of fresco painting via slides and visits to various sights of interest in Florence
Practical lessons guided by the Maestro
Preparatory drawing
Plaster preparation
Fresco painting
Strappo and finishing of the fresco

Duration of the course:

Full course: 6 days
Half course: 3 days
